Hospitalizations unchanged, 83 new confirmed COVID cases in Algoma

The latest COVID-19 numbers from Algoma Public Health show no change in hospitalization numbers in the region from Thursday's update.

There are currently nine individuals in hospital as of Friday afternoon and one additional person in hospital that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

Friday's update shows an increase of 83 confirmed COVID cases in Algoma, which brings the total number of confirmed cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 2,546.

The region currently has 700 active cases, up 55 from Thursday's list while the number of resolved cases in Algoma stands at 1,846, a difference of 28 from Thursday's total of 1,818.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
