After an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 on Tuesday, the number remained the same in the latest update from Algoma Public Health this afternoon.

APH is reporting 30 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 and seven patients admitted for COVID-related reasons.

The number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is eight and the number of patients admitted to ICU for COVID-related reasons is five. Both remain the same from Tuesday's report.

The health unit is reporting 284 active cases in the Algoma region today, which is down by 35 from Tuesday's report.

There are 40 new confirmed cases in the region for a total of 5,678 in 2022 (7,882 since the beginning of the pandemic) and 75 newly-resolved cases in the region, which brings the total number of resolved cases to 7,598.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
