Hospitalizations remain steady, active COVID cases drop by 1: APH

The number of hospitalizations in the Algoma region remained the same in the latest COVID-19 update from Algoma Public Health.

APH is reporting 19 hospitalized patiens with confirmed COVID-19 in Friday's report.

The health unit is also reporting that the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons dropped by four to a total of three.

The number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down to one from five in Thursday's report though the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons is up by three.

In the latest figures from APH, the active case count in the region sits at 441, which is down by one from Thursday's report.

There are 46 new confirmed COVID cases in Algoma, which is up by 46 for a total of 4.903 in 2022 and 7,107 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of resolved cases is up by 47 to a total of 6,666.

An additional 430 tests were completed in the region as well, bringing the total to 252,036.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
