Hospitalizations, number of active COVID cases down slightly: APH

The number of patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 is down for the second straight day.

After reporting a drop of five on Thursday, Algoma Public Health is reporting 24 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID in today's report, which is down by one from Thursday.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons dropped by two to five, while the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by one to five as well and the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons dropped by one to three.

After a drop on Thursday, the number of active cases in the region dropped slightly again today, down by two to 291.

APH confirmed 35 new cases in the region today, bringing the total in 2022 to 5,756 (7,960 since the start of the pandemic) and 37 newly resolved cases. The number of resolved cases stands at 7,669.

There were 198 new tests completed since Thursday's report, bringing the total number of tests completed since the start of the pandemic to 258,453.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
