Hospitalizations down slightly, active COVID cases increase: APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting a slight drop in the number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19.

Today's report shows a total of 28 hospitalized patients, down by two from Tuesday's report.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons rose by two to a total of three while the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is four, which is up by one from Tuesday.

APH is reporting no ICU patients who were admitted for COVID-related reasons.

The number of active COVID cases in Algoma is currently 261, which is up by 19 from yesterday.

APH is reporting 49 new confirmed cases in the region and 30 newly-resolved cases.

The number of confirmed cases in the region stands at 5,907 in 2022 and 8,111 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
