Hospitalizations down, active COVID cases up: APH

The number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations is down in the latest report from Algoma Public Health.

The latest numbers issued Thursday afternoon from APH show 14 hospitalizations in the Algoma region, down from 15 on Wednesday.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons also dropped from eight in Wednesday's report to five today.

The number of patients in ICU with confirmed COVID is currently five, which remains unchanged from Wednesday's report and the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons is down from three to two.

The number of active cases in the region rose by 44 to a total of 415 with two additional active cases in the region that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of new confirmed cases in Algoma rose by 60, bringing the total to 3,787 in 2022 and 5,991 overall since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of resolved cases is up by 16 to a total of 5,576.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
