Hospitalizations down, active COVID cases show slight drop: APH

The latest numbers from Algoma Public Health show a drop in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 as well as a drop in the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons.

The number of hospitalizations is currently 13, down by five from the previous APH numbers while the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons is four, which is down from eight in the previous update.

APH is reporting that there are currently four ICU patients with confirmed COVID-10 and one ICU patient who was admitted for COVID-19 related reasons. Both numbers are a drop of one from APH's previous update.

The number of active cases in the Algoma region is 444, which is down by four from Wednesday's update. There are also three additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region and is also down from Wednesday's report.

There are currently 55 new confirmed COVID cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,696 - 4,492 of which have been confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases in Thursday's report stands at 6,252, which is up by 59 from Wednesday.

The number of completed tests in Algoma is 249,404, which is up by 344.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
