Algoma Public Health is reporting a drop in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 as well as the number of patients admitted for COVD-related reasons.

There are currently 30 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19, down from 32 yesterday and the number of patients admitted for COVID reasons in today's report was zero, down from three yesterday.

APH is reporting three ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19, which is the same as yesterday's report and no ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons, which is also the same as Thursday's report.

The number of active COVID cases in the region is currently 244, which is down by14 from yesterday.

The health unit is also reporting 32 new confirmed cases in the region for a total of 5,964 in 2022 (8,168 overall) and 46 resolved cases (7,924 since the start of the pandemic).

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
