Hospitalizations, active COVID cases down: APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting a drop in the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the region.

The number of hospitalizations in Algoma is down to 10, down from 12 reported on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The number of active cases in the region is also down, dropping to 615 in Thursday's report. There are also three active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of new confirmed COVID cases in the region rose by 50 to 5,334 while the number of resolved cases in Algoma is up by 55 to 4,719.

The number of completed tests in the region is 239,932, up 144 from Wednesday's update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
