NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA HOSPITAL

*************************** Visitor restrictions in effect at SAH

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (March 20) - Due to the continuing number of patients on the Care Unit East (second floor at the Plummer site) exhibiting Norovirus-like symptoms, no visitors will be allowed on the unit effective immediately.

This action is necessary to protect the well-being of both our patients and their visitors.

However, exceptions may be made on compassionate grounds.

Symptoms of Norovirus can include acute onset of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and/or abdominal cramps.

In addition, myalgia (muscle pain), malaise and headaches are often reported.

SAH has instituted measures to contain cross-contamination between different areas of the hospital and between patients on this floor.

Individuals who may be planning to visit patients in other parts of the hospital are urged to use discretion.

Anyone experiencing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or cold/flu-like symptoms is strongly discouraged from visiting at this time.

Visitors who do come to the hospital are reminded to wash their hands often with the solution provided throughout the facility and asked to be respectful of visiting hours and any other direction or requests from nursing staff.

SAH will continue to monitor the situation closely, including a daily review of the visitor restriction status, and advise the public immediately of any changes or updates.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank everyone for their understanding and patience.
