The Searchmont Ski Runner (SSR) hosted the last of the season's divisional races at Searchmont Resort, from Thursday, February 15 to Sunday, February 17.

The Mealey Classic, annual event welcomed the entire Northern Ontario Division as well as guests from Thunder Bay and Marquette, Michigan.

Featured events included two Super-G and two Giant Slalom Races.

In both GS events, the SSR kept the hardware at home.

Delaney Brown led the chase with silver and a bronze while Evi Tiessen kept a bronze in the Under 12 ladies’ category.

The U14 ladies brought gold and a silver for Emma Hendrie, gold for Tayte Nowak and bronze for Olivia Babic.

Georgia Moore-Mcleod skied her way into top 10 and top 15 finishes.

Confidence grew in the ladies’ U16 category where Avery Marcoux led with two gold, Alexis Mezzomo and Chianti Brown each took bronze, and Lindsay Virene and Abby Wolfe took turns chasing the podium with fourth place finishes.

Candace Huard bravely rounded out the top 5.

Silver for Zak Greensted and bronze for Austin Nori kept the U12 men in the game.

A pair of gold for Conrad Nori and silvers for Jacques Tiessen covered the podium for the men’s U14.

Charlie Elder and Alec Real chasing hard within the top 10.

Beau Greensted consistently finished in the top half, while Jonathan Cho impressed in the top 20.

Chandler Simpson’s silver and bronze led the men’s U16 team and Nick Cantarutti’s dedication gave him top five places.

Matthew Farrell and Michael Cho finished some technically challenging courses, where many of the front runners did not.

“These GS courses were technically challenging - they were turny, icy and fast!” say coaches Steve Tarchuk, Scott Beamont and Don Higgs. “Our racers have a history of going all out and this strategy has been paying off.”
