A hockey mom in northern Ontario is facing multiple charges — including assault with a weapon — after the OPP were called to a Sturgeon Falls arena Saturday afternoon.

Officers with the Nipissing West OPP arrived at the Marcel and Jane Labbé Arena shortly before 1:30 p.m. on March 2.

"It was reported that after an earlier hockey game on that same day, a parent from an opposing team had assaulted another parent with a solid object in their hand," says Constable Rob Lewis. "Minor injuries were reported by the victim."

Melissa Simon-Carroll, 40, of Markstay-Warren was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on April 4.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Simon-Carroll is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
