************************* Impaired driver arrested after failing to stop for police

Thirty-four-year-old Jeffrey Hill of 37 Princeton Drive was arrested on the 22nd of October at 12:37 a.m. on Pine Street and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count of flight from police.

It is alleged that on the 22nd of October around 12:35 a.m., City Police attended at the Canadian Bar on Pim Street to assist employees with a male that was causing a disturbance in the bar and threatening them when he was asked to leave.

When police were arriving, the suspect had just entered a black Grand Prix as a passenger.

As the cruiser approached the Grand Prix, it sped off out of the parking lot and began to travel at a high rate of speed on Pim Street and then made a sudden turn onto McNabb Street.

Police caught up to the vehicle at the Pine Street Plaza parking lot and when the cruiser lights and sirens were activated in attempts to stop the vehicle, the vehicle would not stop.

The vehicle continued travelling around the lot at a high rate of speed and at the time, there were other vehicles and pedestrians walking in the lot.

Another cruiser attended on the scene and the vehicle was stopped near the rear of the plaza without incident.

When the driver, the accused, was checked, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The accused was further charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive while under suspension, as at the time of the offence he was under suspension from driving.

He is to appear in court on the 24th of November.
