A teenage rugby player from Mississauga has been found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of an opponent who failed to survive injuries sustained during a spring 2007 high school game.

In a Brampton courtroom this morning, Mr. Justice Bruce Duncan ruled that the accused used unnecessary force in an on-field struggle that eventually claimed the life of 15-year-old Manny Castillo.

He died in hospital two days after suffering major head injuries during the match.

The convicted 18-year-old cannot be identified under Canadian law because he was 16 at the time of the incident.
