Several local unions and their supporters are calling on Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty to not be a cheezehead.

Members of the National Union of Public and General Employees joined brothers and sisters from the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, United Steelworkers, Canadian Union of Public Employees and others to remind Saultites what they have to lose as a result of the Ontario government's corporate tax cuts.

"Premier Dalton McGuinty’s corporate tax cuts will cost Ontario $2.4 billion," said Felicia Fahey, an organizer of the event. "These tax cuts are donations to rich corporations like the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal. Canada’s Big Six banks paid out $8 billion in bonuses in 2009 on profits of $14 billion."

They gathered on the corner of Brock and Queen Streets to draw attention to the province's plans and to offer people ways to get involved in their campaign for tax fairness and protection of public services.

Sault MP Tony Martin also joined the rally and signed a proclamation for quality public services and tax fairness.

Fahey called on others to sign the proclamation online.
