Here's the latest on the forest fire situation in the north

Eight new fires were confirmed in the region this afternoon, seven of which are not currently under control

As of Sunday afternoon, eight new forest fires had been confirmed in the region, bringing the total across the northeast region to 27.

Of the eight newly-discovered fires on Sunday, seven were not under control as of Sunday evening.

The seven new fires currently not under control include:

  • Sudbury 43, which is 3 hectares and not under control. It's located southeast of Rushbrook Provincial Park.
  • Sudbury 44, which is 0.3 of a hectare and not under control. It's located near Ashigami Lake.
  • Sudbury 45, which is 0.1 of a hectare and not under control. It is located near Wanapitei Lake.
  • Sudbury 46, which is 0.2 of a hectare and not under control. It is located within Spanish River Provincial Park.
  • Timmins 6, which is 0.5 of a hectare and not under control. It is located east of Hicks-Oke Bog Provincial Park.
  • Wawa 5, which is 0.5 of a hectare and not under control. It is located east of Kern Lake.
  • Wawa 6, which is 0.3 of a hectare and not under control. It is located just north of Wawa 5.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services report in a release that, of the 27 fires in the region, seven fires are being held, ten are under control and one is being observed while nine are currently not under control.,
