Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the Sault and area.

Snow is expected to begin overnight with between 10 and 15 cm of snow possible before the snowfall tapers off later in the day Saturday.

Snowfall at a rate of 2 to 3 cm an hour is possible at times.

"Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly," the advisory also notes. "Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."

Areas affected by the travel advisory include:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
  • Wawa - Pukaskwa Park

Some areas east of Sault Ste. Marie are also affected, but lower snowfall amounts are expected.

Areas including Espanola, Killarney, Blind River, Thessalon, and Manitoulin Island could see up to 10 cm.
