Heart your Parts

“Heart Your Parts” is the slogan for this year’s campaign for the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health’s 10th annual Sexual and Reproductive Health Week campaign which runs from February 12-16.

Heart Your Parts is about recognizing the importance of your sexual health as part of your overall well-being, and working together to build a stronger culture of healthier and happier sex positive individuals engaging in healthy sexual behaviours.

“Educating yourself about protection, getting tested, knowing your risks, and learning how to communicate with partners and your health care provider, can help create the healthy culture that you, your parts, and your community deserve,” said Stephanie Caughill, a public health nurse who works in the sexual health department at Algoma Public Health.

“Communicating about sex can, at times, be difficult and embarrassing, but you should be proud of every effort you make to break the silence around protecting your sexual health by avoiding STI or unintended pregnancy and creating a safe and supportive environment where we can all Heart Our Parts.”

According to teachingsexualhealth.ca, “Studies have shown that when parents talk openly with their children and teenagers about sexuality it leads to less risky behaviour, less conformity to what they think others are doing, and helps them to view their parents as good sources of information.”

Talking openly about sexual health helps us create a culture where our diverse sexual and reproductive health rights and needs are respected in a safe and sex positive way.

Join the conversation during sexual and reproductive health week.

We will be sharing information on our Facebook page and posting parenting tips on our Twitter feed.
