McGuinty government improving emergency service delivery

SAULT STE. MARIE – The McGuinty government is helping to deliver better emergency services in the Sault Ste. Marie area by investing $1 million in a new regional emergency response centre David Orazietti, MPP announced today.

“This investment continues to highlight the significant role our government is playing in improving vital infrastructure in Sault Ste. Marie,” said Orazietti. “I am pleased we are able to support our local emergency service professionals so that they will be better positioned to respond to the needs of the community.”

Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the McGuinty government is providing $1 million to establish a state-of-the-art Regional Emergency Response Centre (RERC) in Sault Ste. Marie.

Funding will be used to renovate and retrofit an existing Ministry of Transportation building into a multi-purpose facility that will integrate fire protection and emergency medical services.

The new facility will also provide a new joint training venue for emergency response, fire department, and police services personnel. “The capacity to respond to emergencies is of paramount importance to the welfare and safety of all residents of Ontario,” said Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Northern Development and Mines. “This investment reflects our government’s ongoing commitment to respond to the needs of northern communities.”

"Delivering effective emergency services is an important part of building safer, stronger, healthier communities," said Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Monte Kwinter. “I am delighted that the province can contribute so significantly to this innovative project.” This is just one of the many ways that the McGuinty government is supporting new infrastructure projects in Sault Ste. Marie.
