************************
Heat Warning in effect for:
    •    Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
    •    Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
    •    Blind River - Thessalon

The first heat event of the season will persist through the Canada Day long weekend.

Beginning today and continuing through the weekend, southwest winds will bring hot and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees are forecast, with humidex values in the mid to high 30s. Low temperatures overnight are expected to be in the high teens to low 20s providing little relief from the heat. Areas near the lake shores will be cooler.

Slightly cooler conditions will likely arrive on Sunday as a cold front is expected to move through the region.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
