************************* A close call for one mariner

KARS TWP., ON - Yesterday evening at approximately 7:45 p.m., OPP and Goulais River First Response received a call about a capsized boat on Lake Superior at Bluewater Road.

A male was in the water yelling for help.

While police were en route they were notified that the male was out of the water.

The male had been driving a Sea Cruiser powerboat with a Mercury 9.8 horsepower motor.

The male told police that he had decided to take the boat out for a ride to see how bad the waves were.

Family was waiting on shore for him to come back and pick them up.

While he was turning the boat around the boat got caught by a wave and tipped over.

The male was thrown into the water. The driver was not wearing his lifejacket.

He was in the water for approximately five to 10 minutes 400 meters from shore.

A neighbor saw him in the water and attempted to help him with their boat, however he had managed to swim to shore.

The male suffered from mild hypothermia and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
