Guy snowmobiles through downtown Thessalon. Charges ensue

THESSALON – On July 4, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment in Thessalon received a call of a male operating a snowmobile on Main Street in Thessalon. 

Officers patrolled the area and located the snowmobile on River Street. 

The operator was arrested without incident.  

Charged is Michael Grant Whalen, 24 years of age from Thessalon. 

He is charged with the following offences:

  • Impaired operation, section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code(CC)
  • Having over 80 mg of alcohol, section 253(1)(b) Criminal Code
  • Failing to wear proper helmet, section 20 Motorized Snow Vehicles Act (MSVA)
  • Drive with no insurance, section 12(1) MSVA
  • Drive along highway-no licence, section 9(1) MSVA
  • Fail to notify change of address, section 3(3) MSVA 

The accused is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 1, 2015 to answer to the charges.
