Shawn Reedy was caught on camera redeeming stolen scratch tickets three times - twice on the same day they were purloined from a downtown lottery shop.

Ontario Court Justice Romuald Kwolek heard Monday that $800 worth of tickets, along with cigarettes, were stolen from the R&B Lottery Shop in the early morning hours of March 13.

The theft from the Queen Street East business occurred at 4:45 a.m. during a March 13 break and enter, prosecutor Matthew Caputo said.

On that same day, two males showed up at a Gore Street Mac's store with 13 stolen tickets, the assistant Crown attorney said.

One of the men had nine winning tickets valued at $90

Also on March 13, six stolen tickets from the break-in, valued at $25, and two days later, four stolen tickets, one worth $40, were redeemed at the convenience store.

Reedy pleaded guilty to possession of property obtained by crime in connection with the three incidents, as well as two counts of breach of probation and a single count of failing to attend for fingerprints.

Caputo noted the 36-year-old man's criminal record with numerous convictions for property offences and breaches, argung that a period of incarceration is required.

He called for 135 days behind bars, followed by 12 months probation, for Reedy's crimes.

Defence lawyer Eric McCooeye argued that his client has spent the eqivalent of 95 days incarcerated in pre-sentence custody, and should be sentenced to one-day time served.

Reedy only cashed in the tickets and "that was the extent of his culpability," McCooeye maintained.

Kwolek decided 95 days was the appropriate penalty and sentenced the accused to one-day time served, plus 12 months probation.

Reedy remains in custody on other charges.
