Group Health Centre secures new contract with Ministry of Health
 
The Boards of the Group Health Association (GHA) and Algoma District Medical Group (ADMG) have signed a funding and governance agreement with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
 
This agreement secures funding for programs and services for the next five (5) years.
 
Local MPP David Orazietti, was on hand today to make the announcement.
 
The signing of this document is both significant and historical in that it also establishes a new governance structure for the operations of a new corporation, the Group Health Centre (GHC).
 
The new corporation will be governed by a board made up of equal representation from the GHA and the ADMG.
 
 
Inaugural GHC Board members include: Dr. Brian Mitchell (Acting Chair), Tom Bonell, Harvey Briggs, Dr. Chris Bruni, Dr. David Fera, Donald Pezzutto, Charles (Bud) Wildman, and Dr. Kirk Zufelt.
 
The new corporation will be managed under the direction of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), which the GHC Board will recruit over the next several months.
 
In the interim, Grant B. Walsh, MBA, C.Dir., has been appointed as CEO.
 
Grant will have full authority over operations at the Centre and assist with the search for a permanent CEO.
 
Grant brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the areas of healthcare, health-related and service organizations in both the not-for-profit and for-profit areas in Canadian and U.S. companies.
 
His skills include leadership, strategy, performance improvement, business development, finance, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution.
 
He has been highly successful in creating and inspiring vision and has been instrumental in the negotiation of this contract.

Orazietti announces  $38 million for new Group Health contract

Ontario government improving access to front-line health services in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - The Ontario government is improving access to quality front-line health services by signing a new agreement with the Group Health Association and the Algoma District Medical Group, David Orazietti, MPP announced today.
 
“The provincial government’s investment of $38 million for the Group Health Centre agreement will ensure that residents will receive increased access to front-line health care services closer to home,” said Orazietti. “Local residents will benefit from improvements at the Group Health Centre including extended after-hours health care and the capacity to take on new patients.”

Today’s announcement of a new five-year agreement will secure funding for programs and services and provide a new governance structure for the operations of a new corporation, the Group Health Centre.
 
The Group Health Centre will be governed by a board made up of equal representation from the Group Health Association and the Algoma District Medical Group. 
 
The Group Health Centre, which opened in 1963, offers front-line services to more than 60,000 Sault Ste. Marie and area residents, making it the largest and longest-established organization of its kind in the province.
