Passengers on Greyhound's bus #1295, due in Sault Ste. Marie at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, were told tonight that the company's plan to stop all service in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario by December 2 is "not a joke."

At 9:25 p.m., as the bus was approaching the Sudbury terminal, the driver picked up his microphone and advised passengers that the threat is very real, urging them to "raise some hell" by writing to their members of Parliament.

Greyhound Canada announced its plan to discontinue the services last Thursday, meaning that as of December 2, Sault Ste. Marie will be the westernmost end of the line for the company's operations in Ontario.

Federal Transport Minister John Baird believes it's just shakedown tactic aimed at trying to shake down the government for subsidies.
