SAULT TRAILS ADVOCACY COMMITTEE

*********************** Grand opening of Hub Trail combines with record-breaking walk

The Sault Trails Advocacy Committee (STAC) and its partners would like to invite the community of Sault Ste. Marie to the grand opening ceremony of the first section of the Hub Trail on Saturday, September 30 at 11:45 a.m.

"The Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority is delighted to partner with Active 2010, the Voyageur Trail Association and STAC in this record breaking attempt," said Deane Greenwood, trails coordinator.

Jim Miller, chair of STAC, will be assisting in the opening ceremony of the new trail. "The Hub Trail is an important component in the design of our community along with other new facilities like the sports arena and the hospital to provide for a healthier life style, more opportunities for alternate transportation such as cycling and a more attractive environment for visitors."

At 12 p.m. sharp, we will combine with other communities across the province to try to break a Guinness Book of World Records record for the most number of participants in a simultaneous one-kilometre walk or hike.

Every day thousands of people across Ontario walk and hike on trails.

The goal is to attempt to break the world record by having over 78,000 people walk/hike simultaneously on a series of one-kilometre trails across Ontario.

The walk in Sault Ste. Marie will start and finish at the intersection of Conmee Ave and Carmen's Way.

Tania Hazlett, co-ordinator of the ACTIVE2010 Physical Activity Development Project, states: "This is a great opportunity for the community to get on the move and participate in a fun, active event. The distance of one kilometre is achievable and therefore it is possible for many people to be included."

This is a record-breaking event!

Pre-registration is necessary.

Please contact Tania Hazlett at 945-5178 ext. 224, e-mail [email protected] or Deane Greenwood at 946-8530, e-mail [email protected] or register on site from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Please come out and enjoy the new Hub Trail and join us for a short one-kilometres walk.

This trail is wheelchair accessible.

Everyone is welcome!
