Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston are very pleased to be back home in Sault Ste. Marie today to help commemorate the City's 100th anniversary.

Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston are very pleased to be back home in Sault Ste. Marie today to help commemorate the City's 100th anniversary.

At least that's what they told nine-year-old Adaira Diotte after she presented Mrs. Johnston with a bouquet of flowers during this morning's official welcome ceremony at City Hall.

The young Girl Guide told SooToday.com that she wasn't nervous about being part of the festivities, and that her mother had explained His Excellency's significance and job prior to attending.

He makes sure that everyone follows the rules of the country, Adaira informed us.

Prior to a closed meeting with Mayor Debbie Amaroso, Their Excellencies inspected a Quarter Guard of the 49th Field Artillery and signed the official Sault Ste. Marie Guest Book in the front lobby of the Civic Centre.

During their two-day visit to the Sault, Their Excellencies will take part in a number of activities, including this afternoon's 100th Anniversary Flower Garden and Commemorative Plaque Unveiling ceremony at the Civic Centre north grounds (off Bay Street) at 3:15 p.m.

Following remarks from Mayor Amaroso, Dr. Roberta Bondar and the Governor General, Caring Canadian Awards will be presented to local recipients Diane Marshall, Jean Wyatt and Chuck Vernelli.
