Going to Michigan's big NASCAR race this weekend?

MDOT makes it easier to get to Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway (MIS)
 
Fast facts:

• The Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at MIS is on Sunday, August 19.

• Most MDOT construction will be suspended near MIS from 7 a.m., Thursday, August 16, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 21.

• Two local bridges will open early in time for the race: M-50 over US-127 and West Avenue in downtown Jackson.

(August 13, 2012) - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will suspend work and reopen lanes on major state highways surrounding Michigan International Speedway (MIS) for the Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, August 19.

In addition, MDOT will reopen two key bridges in Jackson early to provide fans with greater access on race weekend.

Those bridges include M-50 (McDevitt Avenue) over US-127 and M-50 (West Avenue) in downtown Jackson.

Overall, work on most state roads in counties surrounding MIS, which is located in Brooklyn in southern Jackson County, will be suspended from 7 a.m. Thursday, August 16, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 21.

However, several MDOT projects still will have restrictions in place over race weekend and MDOT urges motorists to drive with caution in work zones.

On US-223 in Palmyra, one lane of traffic is open with a temporary signal on the bridge over the River Raisin.

The temporary signal will be adjusted to allow for increased traffic - both inbound and outbound - for the race on Sunday. And on M-52 in Manchester, southbound traffic is maintained while northbound traffic detoured. In addition, one lane of traffic is open on M-52 over the River Raisin in Manchester, at Austin Road.
