Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre hires business development manager

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) today announced that Gerry Bugyra has joined the organization in the position of business development manager.

In his new role, Gerry will work with SSMIC’s Business Incubator clients and provide guidance and assistance to science and technology-based businesses in the Sault Ste. Marie region.

Gerry will also launch and manage various business funding programs and workshops, and provide direct assistance to science and technology-focused entrepreneurs in the form of coaching, mentoring and advisory services.

Gerry brings a wealth of expertise to the position in the areas of entrepreneurship, business development and experience with new start-ups.

Prior to joining SSMIC, Gerry worked as general manager for local solar installation company, Solar Logix which performed microFIT/FIT solar installations within the Algoma region, served as program manager and coordinator for the Wawa Community Adjustment Committee, and owned his own business in the wood pellet fuel industry.

"Gerry is a great addition to the SSMIC team as he brings significant entrepreneurial and business experience to support our clients,” said Tom Vair, executive director, SSMIC. “His background spans a number of sectors and will enable him to add value to businesses of any type.”

“I strongly feel that Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area has so much potential for SME growth in the Science and Technology sector, as well as many other areas of business,” said Gerry Bugyra, business development manager, SSMIC. “I look forward to working with the SSMIC team to bring in new ideas and help develop business growth to its fullest potential and highest standards in the near future."

Gerry will be based out of the SSMIC headquarters located on the campus of Algoma University in the Essar Convergence Centre (formerly known as the Bio-sciences and Technology Convergence Centre).
