Garage destroyed by fire, cooking oil blamed

FENWICK TOWNSHIP, ON - (January 19) - On Sunday, January 18, Goulais River Fire and Rescue, and OPP responded to a garage fire at 11 Sundial Road in Fenwick Township.

The owner had put a pot of hardened oil used for deep frying on a propane operated burner to melt the oil faster.

The owner then left the garage area to go into his residence.

When he returned to the garage a short while later he noticed flames going up the walls and called 911.

The wooden structure was completely destroyed as were all the contents.

No one was injured.

Investigation revealed that the pot either boiled over onto the burner causing the fire or the burner burned a hole in the aluminium pot causing the oil to spill out and start the fire.
