Funding approved for Carmen's Way resurfacing

Carmen's Way will be getting some resurfacing work done between Second Line and Queen Street.

The work comes after the provincial government approved $3,000,000 in funding through the Connecting Links program,

Sault Ste. Marie MPP Ross Romano announced the funding in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

The Connecting Links program provides funding for up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs up to a maximum of $3,000,000 for road projects and $5,000,000 for bridge projects with eligible costs including the design, construction, renewal, rehabilitation and replacement of municipal roads and bridges that run through communities and connect to provincial highways.

“As everyone in our community knows, our roads are in constant need of repairs, and we see that need at this time of year more than any other," Romano said in a prepared statement.

Sault Mayor Matthew Shoemaker called Carmen's Way "an important stretch of municipal roadway in Sault Ste. Marie."

“The City of Sault Ste. Marie continues to deal with significant infrastructure challenges related to roads, and I recognize the importance of working with our government partners to access the resources needed to improve a high traffic area such as Carmen’s Way," Shoemaker also said.
