CITY POLICE NEWS RELEASE

************************* Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning officers from the Emergency Services Unit were successful in the capture of Paul Jeffery Whalen.

Mr. Whalen was located inside a residence in the City’s west end and complied with the commands of the officers to exit the residence.

Neighbours in the immediate area of the residence in the 300 block of Second Avenue were evacuated prior to this.

Officers from the Investigation Services section are currently executing a search warrant at the address.

Mr. Whalen has been wanted by the City Police since July 7th in regards to a number of weapon related offences.

Mr. Whalen had been involved in an incident in the City’s East end on that date and has subsequently been charged with one count of possession of stolen property, one count of careless use of a firearm, one count of possession for the purpose dangerous to the public, one count of pointing a firearm, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.

In addition to these charges an additional charge of breach of probation has also been added.

Mr. Whalen will be appearing in bail court tomorrow.

City Police also arrested two females on Second Avenue this morning.

Both females are being charged with accessory after the fact and it has not yet been determined if they will be released later today or remanded to bail court.

One of the females charged is 20 year old Casandra Paquette of Second Avenue and the 23-year old female co-accused’s name will not be released as it could result in the identity of the victim from the incident on July 7th.

It is unknown at this time if Mr. Whalen or either of the females faces additional charges as the investigation on Second Avenue is still on-going at this time.

Investigators have advised that the residents who were evacuated earlier today can return to their homes at the time of this release.
