City Police have released a photograph of a man wanted in relation to a gun discharge late Wednesday on Boston Avenue in the City's east end.

They're looking for Paul Jeffrey Whalen (shown), who's being sought on an assortment of charges including possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and pointing and careless use of a firearm.

Police tape was still in place Friday night around the crime scene.

The following is the official news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

************************** Late this afternoon, officers from the City Police Investigation Services Section obtained a warrant of arrest for a male wanted in relation to a gun call in the City’s east end on July 7th.

Shortly before midnight on that date Police responded to a call to a residence regarding a report of gunshots. Police and ambulance personnel located a 23-year old female in the residence.

The victim was taken to the Sault Area Hospital.

The victim and the wanted male are known to each other.

Since the time of the call, investigators have interviewed a number of witnesses to the matter.

City Police are looking for Paul Jeffery Whalen, dob 26 March 1977, of no fixed abode.

Mr. Whalen is wanted for: - 1 count of possession of stolen property - 1 count of careless use of a firearm - 1 count of possession for purpose dangerous to public - 1 count of pointing a firearm - 1 count of carrying a concealed weapon - 1 count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
