The City of Sault Ste. Marie is preparing to close more deals to acquire properties along the new truck route.

Tomorrow night, City Council will be asked to accept offers to sell from 18 property owners.

The new offers generally carry higher price tags than the initial eight accepted by City Council at its June 14 meeting.

If the 18 new deals are closed, there will be 54 residential properties and several commercial properties remaining to be acquired.

With legal fees and moving expenses added, one of the new deals (Douglas James Myers and Jamie Ann Myers at 424 Hudson Street) may break the $100,000 threshold.

There appears to be considerable wobble room in the amounts being accepted by the City for moving expenses.

Most homeowners are getting $1,000 to move, but offers range from as little as $500 to the full cost of being moved by a reputable mover.

In the case of Barbara Church of 234 St. Georges Avenue West, a Soo Van Moving and Storage estimate for $2,500 in moving costs and $3,800 packing and unpacking, plus GST, is included in the offer being presented for approval.
