Hi James:

I believe you have taken the proper steps if this is the route you plan to take and you are to be commended for that.

In fact, as a first term Councillor you have shown some insight into the process that you should follow that some people might not realize after being on Council for many terms. It appears you have spoken to John on this matter, and that should be your first step.

You have also given him the opportunity to release this as well which is another sign of your maturity on this matter.

You are now asking Council for there input, which again is an appropriate thing to do.

If you really feel as you do, as mentioned in this email, I would support you.

I cannot ask a Councillor to withhold information they honestly believe needs to be released to the public.

My only comment would be that before you do this you should talk to our CAO.

He is the person the legal document is about and I think because of that you owe it to him to have a discussion. Asking him whether you should do this or not, however, would be inappropriate and I strongly recommend you do not put him in that situation.

However, a general discussion with him on this matter is very important.

John if you decide to do this instead, I will be paying particularly close attention to your comments to see if you will abide by those things we had agreed to in caucus. Point blank, you mentioned several [WORD DELETED BY SOOTODAY.COM FOR POTENTIAL LIBEL REASONS] at that meeting that I did not call you on. Do not mention any to the media. This situation actually presents itself with great opportunity for you.

Thanks

Derik Brandt
