Michelle Fitton. Dog rescuer

SooToday.com received the following letter from faithful reader and former Goulais River resident Hannah Fitton.

************************* Hello:

My name is Hannah Fitton.

I am from Goulais River, but living in Toronto at the moment.

I wanted to share a story that happened yesterday.

Yesterday my mom (Michelle Fitton) saw a "lost dogs" postersin her neighbourhood in Goulais River.

The dogs belonged to an American couple who were at their camp on Robertson Lake.

The two dogs had been lost for eight days at this point.

My mom and dad had heard a dog howling for two nights and thought maybe it was the lost dogs.

Yesterday morning, my Mom Michelle hiked up the Robertson Cliffs behind their house because that's where they heard the howling from.

She had first-aid supplies, water, dog food and a leash in hand.

To make a long story short, with the help of her own two dogs, she located one of the missing dogs at the top of Roberston Cliff - only to discover that he was on a tiny rock ledge about 20 feet straight down and unable to climb back up.

Alone, Michelle tied the leash to what looked like a sturdy tree, got up the courage, and slowly lowered herself down close to the dog.

Some how she was able to help the 100 lb dog back up and saved him!!

He had been missing for eight days - dehydrated, hungry and cut up paws, she rescued him and took him home.

She then contacted the owners from the poster and within hours they came to pick up their long lost dog.

She went above and beyond, putting herself at risk to save this animal of complete strangers.

The entire story is worth hearing and she deserves recognition for her heroic act.
