************************* The McGuinty government has invested more than $30 million in additional funding in Sault Ste. Marie schools over the last seven years despite a decline in enrolment of 4,129 students.

During the same period per pupil funding is up by more than 50 percent.

These funding initiatives are part of the McGuinty government’s plan to help Sault Ste. Marie emerge from this global recession in a stronger position.

During the past year, over $100 million in provincial stimulus funding combined with other provincial initiatives has been committed to our community.

Since 2004, the Good Places to Learn initiative and other capital development programs have resulted in school improvement funding including:

- Algoma District School Board is receiving $42 million to undertake various school improvement projects

- Huron Superior Catholic District School Board is receiving $21 million to undertake various school improvement projects

- Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel Ontario is receiving $19 million to undertake various school improvement projects.

New school infrastructure funding includes:

- $46.7 million for the Algoma District School Board to construct Superior Heights secondary school

- $15.5 million for the Algoma District School Board to construct a new Francis H. Clergue elementary school

- $9.7 million for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board to expand St. Patrick’s elementary school

- $7.4 million for the Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel Ontario to expand Ecole Notre-Dame-du-Sault.
