John Martella of Green Circle Environmental Recycling is the winner of the 2009 Skipper Manzzutti Award for Business Achievement, sponsored by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

Named after one of the Chamber's dedicated past presidents, Captain Feliciano “Skipper” Manzzutti, this award recognizes a business person who has, either within the past year or period of years, demonstrated exemplary qualities of an entrepreneur and community-minded citizen.

Founded in 1991, Sault Ste. Marie Disposal was still a struggling young company when John Martella took over in 1996.

In 2002, the company became Green Circle Environmental.

Green Circle Environmental is still a local company with a global outlook.

The company holds a Certificate of Approval from the Ministry of the Environment and a Certificate of Competency from the Ministry of Transportation.
