************************** Collision involving police cruiser update - Male arrested identified

On the 12th of August at approximately 8 a.m., a City Police Traffic Officer conducting radar on Goulais Avenue observed two northbound vehicles traveling side by side at a high rate of speed.

One of the vehicles, a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, was travelling in the wrong lane and forced oncoming traffic to the shoulder area to avoid being struck.

The officer attempted to pull both vehicles over.

One vehicle, a GMC Sonoma, pulled over and stopped and the Chevrolet Malibu fled towards Second Line West.

Police caught up to the fleeing vehicle on Allen’s Side Road and attempted to pull it over.

The vehicle failed to stop and proceeded through the intersection at Second Line West without stopping for the stop sign, resulting in a collision involving another police cruiser that was westbound on Second Line West turning left onto Allen Side Road.

The male officer and the accused driver were both sent to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

There were no other passengers in the vehicles at the time and both were heavily damaged.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending against the male driver of the GMC Sonoma.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, 22-year-old Kevin Brissette of #807-631 McDonald Avenue was taken into custody and has been charged with one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of fail to stop for police, one count of dangerous driving while street racing, one count of operate motor vehicle no insurance, and one count of fail to wear seatbelt.

He is to appear in court on the 14th of September.

The area of Allen’s Side Road just south of Second Line West remains closed while traffic officers complete their investigation.
