RCMP Officers of the Year

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police couldn't actually say a lot about this year's recipient of the Officer of the Year Award.

Team OMAX is being recognized for its role in a drug sting that's before the courts and there's a publication ban on it.

But on hand to accept the award on behalf of the multi-force team was Constable Alan Montgomery of the RCMP, Detective Constable Robert Wright of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Detective Constable Craig Fillion of the OPP.

Here is what the RCMP had to say about Team OMAX"

************************ This year's nomination for the Police Officer of the Year, as nominated by the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is Project Team OMAX.

Project OMAX was a 17-month-long joint investigation into cocaine trafficking in Sault Ste. Marie and consisted of members of the Sault Ste. Marie RCMP, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Project OMAX was a true team effort and its success was a direct result of the dedicated efforts of oall three police agencies working hand-in-hand to reduce the trafficking and flow of cocaine in Sault Ste. Marie.

Project OMAX resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of approximately six kilograms of cocaine destined for the streets of our community.

The estimated street value of the cocaine seized totalled over $400,000.

This award is shared with not only the investigative team members, but also with their families whose lives were disrupted throughout the course of the investigation.
