A Japanese student's impression continued

Kumiko Maeda I think this city is very cold and very big city. There is a lot of snow and many streets are very wide. There are a lot of tall trees. I think this city is very close to the USA.

Kumiko Maeda

I think this city is very cold and very big city. There is a lot of snow and many streets are very wide. There are a lot of tall trees. I think this city is very close to the USA. My host family told me they often go to the USA to go shopping. I am very cold, but very fine. I am happy now because many people are very kind to me. There are a lot of tall buildings in Japan, but in Sault Ste. Marie, there are a lot of low buildings. It doesn’t snow in my hometown, but there is a lot of snow in this city. In Japan, there is a time table at the bus stop, but there is no time table at this bus stop.

Shizuka Sumitani

I think this city is very beautiful. Snow is very great. The air is very clean and so I can see a lot of stars. In Japan I can see stars, but the air is dirty so the sky is not clear. There are a lot of snows in this city but Japan has not too much. I had heard Canada is very cold before I came here. But this city is colder than I thought. Canadians like animals very much. Almost every family has a pet. My host family has a dog and cat. I am surprised because their dog is very big. Canadians are more friendly than Japanese people. I think Japan had better follow Canada. Also, the road in this city is very wide. This road is strange to me because in Japan, we draw a white line to divide the road. And, the food is big. Certainly I will gain weight.

Sault Ste. Marie is very cold and there is a lot of snow. Outside is very cold, but inside is very warm. Food is very delicious. For example, Lasagna is delicious. I had never eaten Lasagna. And I can see many trees in this city. People in Sault Ste. Marie are very kind. My host parents are friendly. They say “I love you” to each other every day. My parents do not say "I love you" every day. And in Japan, many people use bicycles. When we go shopping, we usually use bicycles. In Sault Ste. Marie I have not seen bicycles yet. And In Japan, there are many cars in the road. Also there are about 13 thousand people in our university. So there are many buildings and sloping roads in our university. I can see a beautiful mountain view from our university. Algoma University is smaller than our university. Our country has many company buildings.

Sault Ste. Marie is beautiful and clean. There is a lot of snow. I have never seen a lot of snow like in Sault Ste. Marie. It is a blanket of snow. The ground of Sault Ste. Marie is always shining. Sault Ste. Marie is colder than Japan, but the houses are warmer. My house is very cold. People are very kind. They tell me many things. For example, how to get on the bus and when I should get off the bus. In Japan, the rivers are not frozen over. In Canada, the lake is frozen. In Japan, the streets are congested with cars and people.

I think there is a lot of snow in Sault Ste Marie. It is a very nice view, but I am very tired of walking on snow. In Sault Ste. Marie, people play ice hockey in the park. We have not so much snow in Japan. It is very cold in Sault Ste Marie. The cold makes me feel very tired. But it is warm inside buildings. There are a lot of trees. So, the air is very clean. There is also a big river. Children are very active, because they play outside. People in Sault Ste Marie are kind and friendly, because they communicate with many people. The houses are bigger than Japan. I was surprised that most houses have underground rooms.

Kota Kuranaka

First, I think the most different point between Sault Ste. Marie and Japan is the weather. The temperature of this city is so cold. When I arrived at the airport of Sault Ste. Marie, I was shocked. In the city road, there is a lot of snow. I think the view of snow is very beautiful, but my body can't endure. Second, the road in this city is wider than Japan. I feel the road in Sault Ste. Marie is very wide. And there are few people. I live in Kyoto. The road of Kyoto city is very narrow. People can’t see down the road because there are a lot of people. I feel the houses in this city are warmer than Japan. I live by myself in Kyoto, my house is very cold, so I sometimes can’t sleep. I have a good sleep in my host house because the temperature is comfortable.

I think this city is smaller than my home town. My hometown is called Amagasaki. It is composed of an industrial zone. Amagasaki has a lot of people. If I go outside, I cannot help meeting someone. But I did not see the locals in Canada while I took a walk yesterday. I couldn`t believe that! Wherever did they go?? Then I heard this city`s economy depends widely on one company which is the steel industry. For my hometown, there are a lot of companies and factories. So the economy is spread among these companies. The diversity of the Amagasaki economy is greater than this city.

Marina Naka

I think I want to live in Sault Ste. Marie forever! The scenery of Sault Ste. Marie is very beautiful. The people are very kind and friendly. I love this city. I love snow. There is a lot of snow. So I am very happy! What I want to do in Sault Ste. Marie I want to ski and make many friends. And I want to know Canadian cultures. What different from my hometown Sault Ste. Marie is very beautiful white in winter. My hometown has no snow. The river is bigger than Japanese rivers. It is colder than my hometown.

Makiho Ogawa

I think that Sault Ste. Marie is very beautiful. Sault Ste. Marie has a lot of beautiful lakes and rivers. I saw that stars were twinkling in the sky. Second, I think that Sault Ste. Marie is very cold and I cannot an early riser. Because, this town has snow falling every day, and I saw the temperature fell to 20. So, Sault Ste. Marie is very cold. Sault Ste. Marie of a resident is very kind. I lost my way and wandered into a strange place yesterday. I asked a person the way to my home street and this kind person told me how get to my home street. I like Sault Ste. Marie. Thank you.

I think most families have dogs and cats. Their pets are bigger than Japanese dogs and cats. I prefer to dogs. I think the men of Sault Ste. Marie always say "I love you," to their wives and children because they love them. Emma gave hug and kiss to me last night. In Japan, men never say their own mind. They are very shy. I was surprised because Angie, my teacher is always very active, cheerful and dancing. She says, “Oh oh, Wow and Yaaaaaaa!”
