Serious injuries reported in Marks Bay snowmobile crash

Two persons suffered serious injuries Sunday in what's believed to have been a head-on snowmobile crash near the the Sault Ste. Marie Airport. The two sledders were taken away by ambulance late this afternoon from Marks Bay Conservation Area.

The two sledders were taken away by ambulance late this afternoon from Marks Bay Conservation Area.

They were brought out on a snowmobile trail, transported on an all-terrain vehicle and the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services marine rescue fan-boat.

At least a dozen uniformed police, fire and paramedic personnel were on scene, as well several helpers who were not in uniform. The first individual was brought to the ambulance on an ATV at 4:25 p.m.

The second was removed on the marine rescue unit about seven minutes later.

A City Police forensic van and an RCMP forensic vehicle were seen in the area a little after 5 p.m.
