Paul Foisy, president of Sault Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, was honoured last night with Tourism Sault Ste. Marie's first Volunteer of the Year award.

The award, sculpted by local artists Tim and Bonnie Barthelmes, recognizes excellence in the tourism industry.

Our photograph shows Foisy (right) accepting the award from Bill Durnford of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie at a special dinner dance at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

The following are Durnford's speaking notes:

**************************************************************** Volunteer of the Year - Paul Foisy

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie

Current President of the Sault Trailblazers Snowmobile Club and involved with the club for 10 years.

Responsible for the development and operation of 450 km. of trails in the Sault Ste Marie area.

Current Treasurer of the Algoma and Area Regional Trails Council, involved for the past 2 years.

Paul represents motorized users of crown land on the Algoma Forests Citizens Committee.

He sits on the City's Snowmobile Task Force Committee, assisting in developing Sault Ste. Marie as a snowmobiling destination.

Paul, through his role with the Trailblazers Club, was instrumental in bringing the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Annual General Meeting to Sault Ste. Marie in September of 2003.

He spends a considerable amount of time meeting with private land owners as well as government officials in maintaining the trail system and recently arranged sled tours for the Eco Challenge site review group which of course we were successful in securing.
