This Letter is in regards to the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Servicing of Industrial Lands Class Environmental Assesment Site 1B-Intersection of Base Line Road & Leigh’s Bay Road.

TSH – Project No 60264

We Kim & Suzanne Marshall of 782 Base Line A fully oppose the servicing of site 1B, this land falls directly south of our land.

We understand this land falls in the area classed as wet lands.

Are there any protections or standards set from the ministry of Environment for which our city & development must follow.

If so could we please have an outline of them.

There is a big concern for us as we have replaced our well at a great expense to us.

The engineers are giving us no guarantee on quantity or quality of wells.

They said testing could be done before, during & after development, but they have failed to relize we all have capped sealed wells with the pump submerced. This land is adjacent to prime farm land, which is quickly disappearing.

Some of these farms which have donated hay to Alberta this past summer. Are there any restrictions as to how close an industry may locate to a local farming residence?

Knowing the industry would just be a road away. That is the width of a road way.

This evening we attended a meeting regarding this project with city planners & TSH engineers.

Many questions were asked about, noise, wells, traffic increase, road upgrades, depth of water mains & sewer but very few were answered.

They could not tell how it would affect our ground water. We are asking for the Ministry of Environment to put forth an order to comply with part 2 of the environmental assesment.

We need your input to make our city comply with Part 2 of the Environmental Assesment.

You are our last resort as they couldn’t give us residents straight forward answers (Why?) Thank you for taking the time to hear our concerns.

Please don’t let us down.

Yours truly,

Suzanne Marshall, Kim Marshall, Area resident
