A fuel truck was removed tonight from a Heyden ditch where it rolled onto its side this afternoon and spilled a small quantity of fuel oil.

The following is the full text of a news release issued tonight by the OPP's Sault Ste. Marie detachment:

*************************************************************** Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to the intersection of Birch Grove Road and Trout Lake Road in Heyden today after a loaded fuel truck rolled onto its side and into a ditch.

At about 1:00 p.m. this afternoon the truck was leaving a residential area of Heyden when it slid off the roadway and onto its side in a deep ditch.

The truck was loaded with about 15,000 liters of fuel oil (furnace oil).

A small amount of the liquid did leak out of the tanker truck.

Members of the Aweres Township Fire and Rescue quickly contained and stopped the leak.

The Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transportation and a member of the OPP Dangerous Goods Inspection Team all attended the scene.

By 6:30 p.m. the cargo in the truck was pumped out into a second tanker truck.

A tow truck uprighted the tanker and removed it from the ditch.

The truck was able to be driven away from the scene.

This investigation is continuing and no decisions on any charges has been made.
