Baesso is a breast cancer survivor who, over the last few months, has undergone extensive treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

"It can take a while to get back into it following treatment, the physical side of it and the mental side of it. It can take time to regain your confidence," She told SooToday.com.

Baesso decided that physical activity was a good place to start and signed up for a Group Centergy class at Achieve Fitness.

Taught by Anne Callaghan, a personal trainer and fitness instructor at Achieve, the class is a delicate combination of yoga and pilates which Baesso was able to do with modifications.

"It was a really positive experience," Baesso said. "It can be very intimidating to get back out there. The low light atmosphere is comforting and takes away some of the nerves. It's great to be out with the ladies and the staff are very good."

With permission from owner/operator Patty Serota, Baesso and Callaghan have teamed up to offer free Group Centergy For Hope classes to women who are recovering from cancer treatment.

Classes begin June 6 and run every Friday throughout the month from 10 to 11 a.m.

"It helps gain strength, mobility and flexibility," said Callaghan. "It increases your range of motion and helps regain your comfort level. Depending on level of ability, it can all be modified to achieve their individual goals."

But physical activity won't be the only benefit of taking part, says Baesso.

"Following class, we can exchange knowledge and information, and make it a really positive experience," she said.

No previous yoga or pilates experience is needed to join, and those interested in taking part need only call 705-253-2348 to register for this complimentary program.

Achieve Fitness For Women is located at 203 Great Northern Road and is open seven days a week.

As a means to assist others in her position, Baesso has also started a Facebook resource page - Make Pink Lemonade - with information regarding upcoming programs, information sessions, and health tips.
