Environment Canada is calling for clear skies and low temperatures of 14 degrees around the Sault tonight for tonight's big Perseid meteor shower.

You'll be able to view as many as 60 to 100 shooting stars an hour tonight as the popular annual display reaches its climax.

Look toward the constellation Perseus near the horizon in the northeast sky.

And this year, you can join hundreds of amateur astronomers following the action on Twitter.com

Just follow the hashtag #meteorwatch to view the images and other live coverage, and to direct questions to expert astronomers.

If you'd like to try taking photographs yourself tonight, SooToday.com welcomes reader submissions e-mailed to [email protected]

We'll add them to our news coverage tomorrow, either as a photo gallery or a video, depending on how many usable images we receive.

Be sure to tell us your name and the time and place of your photographs.

We're told the best times to watch here in Ontario will be around 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
