The battle for the mayor's job became a four-way race today. Gary Bedryk of 122 Leo Avenue filed his papers at the Civic Centre, one day before the nomination cutoff of 5 p.m. Friday.

Gary Bedryk of 122 Leo Avenue filed his papers at the Civic Centre, one day before the nomination cutoff of 5 p.m. Friday.

Bedryk will run running against John Rowswell, Peter Vaudry and Patti Jennings.

He completed a Psychology degree from St.Thomas University in the early 80’s, and after attaining a Social Work degree from Laurentian University in the mid-90’s he enrolled in the Master’s of Social Work program at Grand Valley State University.

History

Born and Raised in Sault Ste. Marie’s West end. Attended Bayview Elementary School Graduated from grade 13 at Korah Collegiate, playing quarterback throughout his Junior and Senior years and represented his fellow classmates within the Student Council.

Played hockey for the Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds and left several years later for St.Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick on a 5 year Hockey scholarship. He turned down a contract with the now defunct Quebec Nordique Hockey Club (now known as the Colorado Avalanche) to work for the Department of Justice of New Brunswick. He returned to the Soo in the late 80’s and continued to devote his time towards public service and coaching little league girls and boys soccer.
