One of two new sections of the Hub Trail built this year was a tall order met.

The Fort Creek section of the Sault's non-motorized Hub Trail is almost three kilometres long and has two controversial bridges on it.

The bridges were a source of consternation for the late Mayor John Rowswell when he opposed the contracted firm's choice of pilings for the structures.

Rowswell's private engineering firm specialized in design and construction of bridges, especially pedestrian bridges.

He wanted them built with hard piles, not the helical piles used by Sanchez Engineering.

Rowswell and a few other members of City Council also wanted the bridges built lower to save costs.

The Fort Creek section of the Hub Trail was essentially complete last fall and opened for use this year.

Now, the only thing contentious about the tall bridges offering breathtaking views of valleys and waterways in Fort Creek Conservation Area is the unwillingness of several dogs to cross them.

Some four-legged friends of people using the trail seem a little leery of stepping out so far above the solid ground.

That was true of Max (shown with his person, Stephanie Caputo) and he had to be carried across.

Caputo said this was their first visit to the Fort Creek Conservation Area section of the Hub Trail and she was very impressed with it, especially the bridges.

Max really begged hard to differ with her on that last point.
