NEWS RELEASE
DISTRICT OF SAULT STE. MARIE SOCIAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION BOARD
*************************
The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSMSSAB) has purchased the former Rosedale school from the Algoma District School Board.

Social Services is very enthusiastic about the potential of this important community asset and Sandra Hollingsworth, chair of the Board stated, “Rosedale allows Social Services to use the existing building for all of our directly delivered mandates; Ontario Works, Early Years and Housing. The site also includes sufficient vacant land to allow for multiple options and use going forward.”

Jennifer Sarlo, chair of the Algoma District School Board noted, “We work closely with both our local and district DSSAB on an on-going basis and are proud of our partnerships. With the opening of our new Boréal French Immersion School, we declared the Rosedale school as surplus to the Board’s needs. We are very happy that this property will be re-purposed and put to good use within our community.”

Social Services plans to offer a variety of initiatives within the existing space including a new day care with up to 49 new child care spaces as well as a new EarlyON Child and Family Centre.

The Chapple Avenue property will also incorporate approximately 10 new affordable apartments for seniors and a new Chapple Albion Community Hub. Other services and opportunities for use of the vacant land are also being explored.
